Mission

Coastside Horse Council is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization committed to maintaining the equestrian heritage, culture and economic, recreational and social community benefits on the San Mateo County Coast in Northern California. This area spans incorporated and unincorporated areas from Pacifica, Montara, Moss Beach, El Granada, Half Moon Bay to Pescadero.

Our Goal:

Keep Ranches and Horses in Rancho Corral de Tierra.

Horse-Centric Recreation in Rancho:
Community Benefits

Our equestrian heritage, economy and social and recreational benefits are crucial to our community.

Ocean View Farms, Redtail Ranch, Ember Ridge Equestrian Center, and Moss Beach Ranch comprise 150 acres of approximately 4,000 acres within Rancho Corral de Tierra, from Pacifica to El Granada.

These four equestrian centers host a number of public-serving programs:

  • Summer camps

  • Horsemanship clinics

  • Public and private trail rides

  • Horseback riding lessons

  • Adaptive riding/job training programs for disabled and neurodiverse children and adults

  • Equine therapy for veterans and others to help reduce the impact of PTSD

Many of these programs are not available anywhere else in San Mateo County.

In January 2024, a FOIA request by the Coastside Horse Council revealed that the Golden Gate National Recreation Area/Park Service had secretly developed a “Rancho Corral de Tierra Comprehensive Site Management Plan” and “Equestrian Facilities Management Plan” in 2021.

These plans decimate the population of horses and ranches in Rancho Corral de Tierra.
