About Us

Founded in 2011, Coastside Horse Council is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization (tax payer ID 99-2853251) with 250+ members.

Our rapidly growing organization includes a diverse group of outdoor enthusiasts, horse-centric business owners and community organizers.

We are led by an 8-person board which meets monthly and CHC actively involves a volunteer base of 40+ community members.

  • Larry De Young: President

Larry has lived on the Midcoast since 1986.  He and his horse, El Duque, are frequent visitors to local trails. He recently retired from leading the volunteer Mounted Assistance Unit for the Santa Cruz District of California State Park. He has been involved in or led multiple equine-related initiatives, including the re-writing of the San Mateo County Large Animal Keeping Ordinance, two rounds with the Half Moon Bay City Council to keep horse access to Poplar Beach and the first fight with the GGNRA when they tried to get rid of horses on the RCdT in 2011.  Larry boards his horse at home, but he recognizes that the large-scale decimation of horse-boarding on the coast proposed by the GGNRA will negatively affect all equestrians and our local equestrian culture.
